It's a remake of a 1980s series and set in our modern world where Earth has the first contact with aliens. Their ships hover over the 26(?) major cities of the world and their leader Anna (Morena freaking Baccarin!!!) speaks to the world in whatever language is prominent there. English in LA and NYC....French in Paris....Portuguese in whatever city in Rio....
She says that they are happy and relieved to find an intelligent group of people and that we are the first they have encountered in the universe. They need natural resources that are plentiful on Earth in order to survive and in exchange they are willing to trade technology and knowledge.
HOWEVER they have been here for a LONG ASS TIME hiding out in sleeper cells gathering information about humanity. We don't know what they want, but they know how to keep any sort of resistance down and keep good PR up.
I like it anyway. (BONUS POINTS...ALAN TUDYK IS ON TOO. He's not in the main cast, but whatevs...) You should catch up!!!
